Today we released the application for anyone who is interested in applying to join one of the City’s advisory commissions. Comprised of community leaders and Philadelphians with a passion for public service, the City’s advisory commissions provide Mayor Kenney and the Administration valuable insight and feedback on policy priorities on behalf of Philadelphia’s underrepresented communities.

The open application period will begin January 10, 2018, and will close on February 28, 2019. Requirements for members of each commission vary, but ideal candidates:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to their community
  • Are able to commit at least four hours a month to working with the Commission
  • Are city residents

The Office of Public Engagement enhances the City’s community outreach and engagement efforts and works with residents to make City government accessible to all Philadelphians. OPE manages the following commissions, including:

  • Philadelphia Youth Commission*
  • Mayor’s Commission on African American Males
  • Philadelphia Commission for Women*
  • Mayor’s Commission on Asian American Affairs
  • Millennial Advisory Committee

Please note that some of the above commissions (marked with an asterisk*) also have commission members who are appointed by City Council.

The Mayor’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion was created to support Mayor Kenney’s commitment to building an inclusive government that looks like the city of Philadelphia. ODI oversees the following commissions:

  • Mayor’s Commission on LGBT Affairs
  • Mayor’s Commission on Persons with Disabilities
