About 45 members of Pennsylvania-Task Force 1 will deploy TONIGHT to Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, in anticipation of Hurricane Michael. The Philadelphia Fire Department sponsors PA-TF1, which is one of 28 federal urban search-and-rescue teams overseen by FEMA.
PA-TF1 includes PFD members and first responders from agencies across the region. The convoy of trucks filled with resources and equipment is expected to leave sometime between 9 and 11 p.m. and drive more than 950 miles to the staging site in Alabama.
Members of PA-Task Force 1 recently returned from a 19-day deployment to South Carolina to assist those affected by flooding caused by Hurricane Florence.
