Is there a registration deadline?

The deadline to register for the program is Friday, June 22, 2007 by the close of business.

What are the benefits of participating in the Tire Round-Up Program?

• Opportunity for block clubs and community groups to raise funds and at the same time participate in neighborhood clean-ups and beautification projects. Registered participants are offered a "tire bounty" of $.50 for each illegally discarded tire they collect and drop at one of the designated sites around the city.
• Piles of tires pose both a fire and health risk, as they are highly combustible and provide breeding grounds for rodents and mosquitoes. By collecting illegally discarded tires and properly disposing of them, participants help to eliminate the health risk and reduce the amount of materials that contribute to the deteriorating conditions of our inner city neighborhoods.
• Tires filled with standing water provide an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes carrying various diseases including the West Nile Virus (WNV). Tires fill with water and continuously absorb sunlight, which is an ideal environment for hatched mosquito larvae.

When does the 2007 program begin?

The 2007 Tire Round-Up Program kicks off on Saturday, June 30, 2007.

Where can I drop off my tires?

There are temporary drop off sites scheduled for each Sanitation Area according to the PMBC cleaning schedule.  Participating groups are not limited to the drop off site in their area. They can take tires to any of the drop off sites around the city.

I'm not sure of my ID#.  Can I still drop off my tires?

Yes.  We will take as much identifying information as possible at the site.  Reimbursement cannot be guaranteed unless we can correctly find and verify the ID#.

I have 2, 3, 4, or 5 tires in my garage.  I don't want any money for them.  Can I dropthem off?

Yes.  To keep tires from being illegally discarded, we will accept a small amount of tires from citizens not registered for the program.  They will not be reimbursed. These tires are not eligible for reimbursement.

Can I donate tires from my car repair shop?

NO.  We can only accept illegally discarded tires found on city streets, sidewalks, parks, alleys, and riverbanks.  Tires from locations required to pay a fee for private disposal are not eligible for the drop-off program.  Examples of these locations are auto repair shops, car dealers, mechanic shops, and private storage lots.

Groups who drop off ineligible tires will not be paid and will be disqualified from further participation in the program. 

I missed the registration date and was unable to register for the Tire Round-Up Program.  I have about twenty tires in a lot near me.  Can you come and get them?

The Tire Round-Up Program is a partnership between the city and volunteer groups.  A requirement of that partnership is that registered groups bring their tires to the drop off site. 

To report tires on a lot, you should call Licenses & Inspection at (215) 686-2463.  For illegally discarded tires on the street or sidewalk, call our Customer Affairs Office at (215) 686-5560 to register your request. 

How much do I get paid?

Each participant is paid a "tire bounty" of $.50 per tire. Reimbursement is limited to $500.00 (1000 tires) for each registered ID#.
