SnowCAT

 

 

SnowCat is a system that identifies various categories of weather conditions and indicates what the City's response will be to each category.  For more information on SnowCat, please call

Snow Cat 1 - Sleet and freezing rain
How City Responds:

  • Salt primary and secondary routes. Salt conditional tertiary streets

Snow Cat 2 - 1 to 3 inches of snow
How City Responds:

  • Salt primary and secondary routes. Salt conditional tertiary streets. If cold temperatures are forecast, limited plowing may occur. (No contractors.)

Snow Cat 3 - 3 to 6 inches of snow
How City Responds:

  • City and contractors salt primary and secondary routes.
  • City and contractors plow primary and secondary routes.
  • City vehicles plow and salt one lane of conditional tertiary streets.
  • Snow lifting/melting operations proceed in central business district.

Snow Cat 4 - 6 to 12 inches of snow
How City Responds:

  • Mayor may declare a "Snow Emergency."
  • City and contractors salt primary and secondary routes.
  • City and contractors plow primary and secondary routes.  Conditional tertiary routes are also plowed.
  • Snow lifting/melting operations proceed in central business district and outlying commercial corridors.  If temperature is below freezing, contractors will be called in to help clear snow, and additional lifting operations will be deployed in neighborhoods with smaller streets.

SnowCat 5 - 12 inches and above:
How City Responds:

  • Mayor may declare a "Snow Emergency."
  • City and contractors salt primary and secondary routes.
  • City and contractors plow primary and secondary routes.
  • One lane of all residential streets are plowed and salted.
  • Intersections are cleared.
  • Snow lifting/melting operations proceed in central business district and outlying commercial corridors.  If temperature is below freezing, contractors will be called in to help clear snow and additional lifting operations will be deployed in neighborhoods with smaller streets.
