The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society´s
PARKS REVITALIZATION PROJECT

Philadelphia Green initiated its Parks Revitalization Project in 1993 with the belief that clean, green, safe and well-used parks are fundamental to the health and vitality of urban life. The project is committed to working with the City of Philadelphia's Department of Recreation and community groups to improve urban parks in low to moderate income neighborhoods. The aim is to develop viable, self-sustaining organizations and groups to serve as stewards for the parks. The Project works to build the capacity to park groups and to help them establish a network of relationships with each other, the Department of Recreation, other city agencies, and with neighborhood institutions and businesses. Through the support of the William Penn Foundation and Wallace-Reader's Digest Funds, the Parks Revitalization Project, initiated with three parks, now works with over fifty neighborhood parks.
