CAROUSEL HOUSE SPONSORED PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
A variety of cultural activities are offered in ceramics and other arts and crafts. The arts and crafts/ceramics room is available for group usage. The music and choral programs are coordinated through the Kardon Institute of Music.

AQUATICS
The Carousel House swimming pool provides both recreational and instructional programs. The pool is heated at an average temperature between 86 and 88 degrees with the air temperature between 88 and 90 degrees. The pool is available to special education classes, individuals with various disabilities, group homes and organizations which represent people with disabilities. A Family Swim Night  is also offered. A physician's approval is needed to participate in our aquatics programs.

ATHLETICS
Programs are offered in wheelchair basketball, quad rugby, wheelchair tennis, rowing, martial arts, track and field, wheelchair racing and Special Olympics sports.

EXERCISE ROOM
Available to all people with disabilities, ages 16 and over. All universal type equipment is wheelchair accessible. Other equipment includes free weights, rowing machine, exercise bike and stair climber. A physician's approval in needed for use of the exercise room. Yearly membership is only $15.

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS
Open to all boys and girls, ages 21 and under. The program is held Saturday afternoons at the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center at 4015 Main Street in Manayunk. The program begins in September and ends in May. There is no fee for the program. Racquets and Sport Wheelchairs are provided.

JUNIOR WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL
Open to all boys and girls, ages 19 and under. The program begins in October and ends in mid March. Practices are held from 9:15 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The team plays a few home games travels to tournaments along the east coast. There is no fee for the program and sports wheelchairs are provided. .

Houseman
