The Gallery at Market East
Center Court, On the Mall Level
May 21, 2007 through May 29, 2007

On May 21st, the 35th Annual Spring Art Show will open at the Gallery at Market East. The Art Show gives recreation visual arts participants a chance to see their work honored on a citywide level. The public is given a chance to see what is happening in the Department's facilities and learn what programs are available in their neighborhoods. Hopefully more artists of all ages will take advantage of our many and varied programs.

The ages of the participants ran from toddlers through senior citizens. Over two hundred and fifty works were on display. The works included Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Pottery and Crafts.

On Wednesday, May 21st at 7:00 p.m. there will be a special awards presentation and reception.  The refreshments will be provided by Tiffany's Bakery and The News Stand, Gallery I, Mall Level.

The judges choose fifty-eight outstanding works of merit based on age and media. Of these, they then choose the most outstanding in Two Dimensional, Three Dimensional and Craft for youths and for adults. The six outstanding pieces receive a Best in Show Award and the other fifty received trophies.

The Gallery at Market East has hosted the Spring Art Show for 23 years. Thousands of Philadelphians see the art of our talented participants at this location.

Please look through our website to see what visual arts programs are offered in your neighborhood. There is also information about the Department's Summer Art Camp Program.

We hope that you enjoyed seeing craft work and art work that our talented participants  created for this year's exhibit.

The Awards Ceremony is to recognize Merit in all aspects of the Visual Arts and Crafts, as taught in the Philadelphia Recreation Department's Recreation Centers and Playgrounds.
