2007 SPRING ART SHOW BULLETIN

PURPOSE
The Spring Art Show is the culmination of the year's Visual Arts Programs. The participants are given a chance to see their work honored on a citywide level. The public is given the opportunity to see what is happening in the Department's facilities. This develops future support for our programs and gives us the opportunity to recruit new participants.

EXHIBIT
The Spring Art Show will be on exhibit from Monday, May 21, 2007 through Tuesday, May 29, 2007 in the Center Court of the Gallery at Market East, 9th and Market Streets.

AWARDS PRESENTATION
The Awards Ceremony and Reception will take place at the Center Court of the Gallery on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m.

SELECTION OF EXHIBIT ITEMS
District Managers and District Art Chairpersons are responsible for arranging for the selection of entries from their districts. Work may be chosen from a District Level Art Show or by interaction between facilities which wish to participate, and the District Art Chairperson. Each district should be sure that the work for the show represents the best results of the various arts and crafts programs in the district.

Work accepted by the Chairperson should be complete: finished, sturdily constructed, clean, neat and properly tagged. Do not accept work previously exhibited in former Spring Art Shows. Do not accept work done in school programs. Work must have been done in a Recreation Department facility, not at home. Do not accept anything done prior to the summer of 2006.

DISTRICT LIMITS
Districts are limited to ten pieces of flatwork and fourteen pieces of three-dimensional work per district.
The Older Adult Centers, together, have the same limitations. The Special Population programs have the same limitations. Work from the After-School Program must be entered through your District Chairperson.

DISPLAY LIMITATIONS
1. Flatwork cannot be wider than thirty inches, and must be properly mounted.
2. Canvasses must be stripped or taped. Canvas board edges must be blacked or stained or color must wrap-around for exhibit.
3. No Picture Frames can be accepted. Please remove frames before submitting work.
4. Unframed and/or stripped canvasses must be less than 1 3/4" thick.
5. Three-dimensional pieces must be under sixteen inches wide and twenty inches high.
6. These limitations are for our tamper-proof exhibit cases and must be adhered to. There can be no exceptions.

TAGS & PREPARATION
1.All work must be correctly tagged. Untagged and incorrectly tagged work will be rejected.           Official entry tags are available from your District Art Chairperson. Make sure that each piece is tagged and the participant's name is spelled correctly. Fill in the exact age for participants less than eighteen years of age. Work with the participant's age not filled in, will automatically be out of the competition, because the judges would have no criteria for comparison. The name and facility must be marked on the back or bottom of each piece, in case the tag comes off.
2.All canvases must be stripped or taped. Stripping can be stained, painted or gilded.
3.Canvasboard edges must be either blacked or paint should overlap all four edges completely.
4. Do not submit work made from plasticine (modeling clay). It would melt while on display.
