VISUAL ARTS

2006 HOLIDAY DECORATIONS CONTEST BULLETIN

PROGRAM

Recreation participants and leaders decorate their facility for  the winter holiday season. Themes could include Christmas, New Year's, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, winter, winter activities, winter sports, etc.
The Recreation staff should decide which parts of the facility will be decorated. Decorated areas should include entrances and bulletin boards, and could include windows, doorways, offices, etc. It is not necessary to decorate the entire facility. Judges will look for quality, not quantity.
Many facilities have always decorated the building for the holiday season. This competition strives to recognize the best of them and encourage others to join in.

After School Programs may choose to decorate their own areas if the facility where they are held does not wish to participate. After School entries will be judged on the same criteria.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

1.Recreation Staff: Contact your District Visual Arts Chairperson to indicate that you wish to participate.
2.If the District Chairperson receives more than four requests they will schedule a District Holiday Decorations Contest and enter their four district winners. If the District Chairperson receives four requests or less, they will enter those facilities without a district level contest.
3.The District Chairperson will send in the official list of district entries to the Visual Arts Unit at Fisher Park.
4.O.A.C.'s that wish to participate should follow the same procedure. Their Visual Arts Chairperson is on the list also.

PURPOSE

To make the facility attractive
To cultivate an interest in the appearance of the facility
To involve participants in the facility and its programs
To enjoy making a variety of holiday projects/decorations
To create a festive holiday feeling for the participants and the public.

MATERIALS

Anything goes. Participants can use Department issued supplies or donated materials and objects to create the decorations. They can make construction paper cutouts, create murals with brown paper and paint or make dimensional decorations that hang or stand. The emphasis is on facility made decorations and participant involvement. Creativity and originality should be stressed.

DATES

District Entries are to be called into Anne Marie Dunne by December 6th
Judging will begin on December 7th
