2006 HOLIDAY CARD CONTEST

HOLIDAY CARD CONTEST BULLETIN

PURPOSE

1. To provide a stimulus for young artists at Recreation Facilities.
2. To provide the Department with an appropriate Greeting Card which represents an example of the exciting work done in our Art Classes.

ENTRY RULES

1.Entries are due to the district chairpersons by Thursday, November 3rd. Chairpersons are asked to deliver the top fourteen (14) entries to Fisher Park, 5th and Spencer Streets by 4 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2006.
2. All entries must be 4 1/2" x 6" in size.
3. All work must be done at a Philadelphia Recreation Department facility.
4. The design may be vertical or horizontal.
5. Entries must be done using black and white. This will guarantee good contrast when the work is reproduced.
6. Entries may be done in pencil, crayon, magic marker, pen, linoleum block print or cut paper collage.
7. Entries will be judged only on the work on the face of the card.
8. Themes should apply to recreation and/or Philadelphia. Winter, animals, people, and the Department's mascot, Phred the Panda, can all be used.
9. Work must be original. Do not copy commercial Holiday Cards or pictures or designs from magazines.
10. Do not use copyrighted characters. i.e. Power Puff Girls, Pokemon, Garfield, Mickey Mouse.
11. Do not refer directly to religious holidays such as Christmas or Hanukkah.
12. No words are necessary, although words such as "Holiday Greetings", "Happy Holidays", or "Seasons Greetings," may be used.
13. Make sure that each card's design is appropriate for use in the month of December. Holidays from other months are not appropriate. (except for New Year's)
14. Entries must have the following information on the back:

Participant's Full Name
Age
Facility Name
District Number
MAKE SURE THE INFORMATION IS LEGIBLE!

AGE GROUPS

Entries will be judged in four age categories:

                     Ages 8 and under                 Ages  13 to 18

                     Ages 9 to 12                        Older Adults

JUDGING

All entries are due at Fisher Park by 4 PM on November 4th. Judging will take place on November 7th. Winners will be announced the week of November 14th.

DISPLAY

The best entries may be on display at the Recreation Department offices throughout December.

PRIZES

Winners will receive printed cards of their own design and award certificates. Runners up will receive award certificates..
