My Piece of Peace Quilt Project
Program created by Judy Nelson, Quilt Artist - Lorrie Kim

"My Piece of Peace Quilt Project" is an interactive touring program visiting Philadelphia Department of Recreations After- School Programs.  It helps children and youth integrate the four-steps to creative resolution into their personal lives while creatively representing their peaceful solutions on a group quilt project.  The quilt remains in their After School Program and serves as a reminder of their problem solving successes.

Project Goals:
*Provide children and youth with practice integrating the four-steps to creative resolution with a personal problem.
*Practice problem identification.
*Practice identifying possible problem solving partners and potential resources.
*Practice assessing multiple resolutions and evaluating the chosen resolution.
*Exposure to creative visual arts as a means of self-expression and communication.
*Exposure and practice of peaceful practices such as breathing techniques.

My Piece of Peace Quilt Project began in the spring of 2004 and has continuously served our after school programs ever since.  In 2004 My Piece of Peace Quilt Project alone has worked with more then 525 children and youth and presented over 35 workshops throughout Philadelphia.

Innovation: My Piece of Peace Quilt Project informs, educates and most importantly helps children integrate using the four-steps to creative resolution.  Each child has an opportunity to work directly with an actor/educator as they move from their conflict to resolution.

My Piece of Peace Quilt Project is a cooperative program utilizing the talents and strengths of many community partners.  Educators, artists, social work students, service organizations, business' and youth have all contributed to the success and continuing improvements of this highly evaluated CRT program. My Piece of Peace Quilt Project has consistently earned excellent evaluations and continues to have a waiting list of program sites who have requested this program.

Donations: Many program supplies and fabric are donated by the Department of Recreation After School Programs Unit, CRT, SCOP, Ameri-Corp and the many generous fabric stores on 4th street in downtown Philadelphia.

All CRT actors/educators are diverse and appeal to diverse audiences.
