Small Hands Nutrition and Food Preparation Classes
(during farming months this workshop may be combined with a farm field trip to Kimberton Farms, CSA)

Goals:
To bring a connection between food choice (nutrition) and behavior (energy) to after school youth.
Hands on practice in healthy food preparation
Introduction of diverse fruits, vegetables and healthy protein sources
Bring "AND" thinking to food, students think of what they like AND what they do not and learn some ways to make healthy food taste great.

food prep

Learning how to pick a melon and how to eat it.

Participants:
Create their own "Mis en Plas" (the ingredients that make up a recipe).  They prepare the food using their own utensils and ingredients.

Taste the individual ingredients and see how the parts make up the whole.

Get a copy of the recipe that they created by tasting and correcting the recipe.

Have a meal together that they created and share with others in their community.

SAFE NIGHT
One night,28 youths, 5 teens and 10 adults participated in a fun, interactive experience exploring Conflict Resolution Theatre skills and learning how to prepare healthy whole foods while sharing a meal.

Group members learned and practiced the four steps to creatively resolve a conflict.

Rice_Paper_Painting

Painting rice paper with flavored syrups was a hit. Even better—eating their tasty artwork.

sushi

After eating some colorful vegetable sushi, all learned how to make their own and why they call it sticky rice. Some even tried the super-hot wasabi.

Teen_helpers

CAPA High School and college students helped lead all the activities throughout this fun evening.
