COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Keith

Keith used his diary to share his thoughts and feelings.

Journal Writing Workshop

Goal:
To practice expressing thoughts and feelings
To introduce and practice containment skills through Journal Writing. (healthy containment skills reduce reactivity).

This workshop will help participants:
Practice breathing techniques.
Listen to music that will help children identify internal strengths.
Make a clay pen to use for their journal writing.
Practice writing in their journal.
(Children retain their journal and pen for continued practice)

Children, youth and teens make beautiful clay pens to make expressing their thoughts and feelings more fun
Pens like these are made by children in our After School Programs, youth in our recreational programs, and teens involved in our Teen Centers.  The pens are a creative and handy reminder of how important self- expression is and how much fun it can be.
This project was created by Judy Nelson and inspired by artist Ellen Silberlicht
