Recreation Job OpportunitiesLIFEGUARD II : Swimming Pools
PAY RATE : $14.00/hr. (1st year) $14.60/hr. (2nd year)
TRAINING PERIOD : On-going
HOURS OF OPERATION : 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM Monday - Friday 1:00 - 6:00 PM Saturday & Sunday
You will be assigned to work a 35-hour week on either an early, late or rotating shift, as our facilities operate on a seven (7) day schedule Monday thru Sunday. You will be scheduled according to the needs of the facility and your days off will vary.
DUTIES: The Lifeguard 2 supervises the work of other lifeguards and PMA?s assigned to a specific pool and makes schedules for them. The LG 2 also organizes and administers the aquatic program at the pool, including the following: plan special events, safeguard patrons, rescue bathers in distress and administer first aid and artificial respiration when necessary. The LG 2 is responsible for providing swimming and lifeguarding instructions, and is responsible oversee the operation of the recirculation filtration system (except repair). The LG 2 must insure that the standard chlorine content meets the Philadelphia Health Department's guidelines, make hourly tests of chlorine content and keep records of hourly attendance, swimming lessons, chlorine tests, accidents, etc. The LG 2 is responsible to insure that the pool is supervised at any time there is water in the pool; supervises the maintenance and cleanliness of the pool area; wears appropriate uniform and identification and perform related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS: Completion of the twelfth (12) school grade. Must be at least 18 years of age and have one season of experience as a lifeguard in municipal pools, or two (2) seasons of lifeguard experience at a community or municipal pool. You must have current AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING, FIRST AID AND CPR CERTIFICATES (CPR can be issued by American Red Cross, American Heart Association or Coyne), which do not expire prior to September 1, 2008. Must attend orientation session.

Summer employees receive no paid time off for sickness or holidays and no accrued vacation rights or other related benefits.
NOTE: The normal residency requirement has been waived for the positions of Lifeguard 2.
