LIFEGUARD  I : Swimming Pools

 

PAY RATE  :  $12.33/hr. (1st year)

                     $12.83/hr. (2nd year)

 

TRAINING PERIOD : On-going

 

HOURS OF OPERATION  :   11:00 AM - 7:00 PM     Monday - Friday

                                           1:00 - 6:00 PM           Saturday & Sunday

 

You will be assigned to work a 35-hour week on either an early, late or rotating shift, as our facilities operate on a seven (7) day schedule Monday thru Sunday.  You will be scheduled according to the needs of the facility and your days off will vary.

 

DUTIES:            A Lifeguard 1 safeguards all patrons; rescues swimmers in distress and administers first aid and artificial respiration when necessary;  gives swimming instruction in pool;  maintains order and discipline in pool and surrounding area to prevent accidents in and out of the water;  helps to maintain and keep area clean; keeps standard chlorine content in pool to meet the Philadelphia Health Department's standards; makes hourly test of chlorine content, keeps records of hourly attendance and swimming lessons; enforces department rules; wears appropriate uniform and identification; performs related duties as required.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 16 years of age. Must have current AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING, FIRST AID AND CPR CERTIFICATES (CPR can be issued by American Red Cross, American Heart Association or Coyne), which do not expire prior to September 1, 2010.  Must attend orientation session.

Summer employees receive no paid time off for sickness or holidays and no accrued vacation rights or other related benefits.

 

NOTE: The normal residency requirement has been waived for the positions of Lifeguard 1.
