SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM 2008

Last year the Summer Food Service Program provided an average of 50,000 meals per day to recreation centers, playgrounds, playstreets, summer camps, parks, houses of worship, community organizations, schools and day-care centers throughout the City of Philadelphia.

 

The City of Philadelphia has been selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Division of Child Nutrition Services, as one of three sponsors for the Philadelphia Summer Food Program.

 

This program will provide a daily meal and snack to youth up to and including eighteen years of age from June 23 through August 29, 2008.

 

Applications for participation in this program can be obtained from the Martin L. King Recreation Center, 22nd Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, Rm. 204, from 10 am until 4 pm, Monday through Friday.  If additional information is needed, call 215-685-2726 or 2727, Mondays through Fridays, 10 am until 4 pm.

 

REQUESTS FOR AN APPLICATION CAN BE MADE AFTER MONDAY, February 1, 2008.

 

DEADLINE TO REQUEST APPLICATIONS:  Friday, April 25th, 2008.

 

DEADLINE TO RETURN APPLICATIONS:  Thursday, May 23, 2008.

Mentally and physically challenged persons will be served a daily lunch and breakfast or snack regardless of age, provided they are enrolled in a specialized program for the mentally and physically challenged.

 

NO PERSONS shall be denied on the grounds of age (age within statutory limits), race, color, national origin, sex, or be excluded from participation in the Special Summer Food Service Program for Children.

 

Any person who believes that he or she has been discriminated against in any USDA-regulated program should contact, within 180 days of the incident, the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, DC 20250.

The Philadelphia Recreation Department received the Department of Agriculture's Summer Champion Award for providing nutritious meals to the children of Philadelphia.
