Mt. Moriah Cemetery Clean Up

Mt. Moriah Cemetery Clean Up: June - July 2011

In late June 2011, the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services answered the call to do something about the property neglect found at the historic Mt. Moriah cemetery located in Southwest Philadelphia.  Crews from the Vacant Lot Program worked at the cemetery for several days and removed tons of short dumped trash, cleared hidden paths and headstones that were overgrown with weeds, cut down brush, trimmed trees and shrubs and even hauled away an abandoned vehicle found at the site.  After the initial clean up by the City was completed, local community groups equipped with hand tools from our Community Partnership Program  moved in and raked up cut grass, trimmed weeds, removed debris, etc.  If you would like to volunteer to help maintain the cemetery or participate in a variety of citywide and neighborhood cleanups, please visit www.servephiladelphia.com for more information.
