The bulk of materials are incoming and outgoing correspondence concerning acquisition of properties and the demolition of buildings for opening Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Also included are conveyancers' reports of properties acquired for the Parkway 1908-1912; lists of properties acquired by City 1900-1901, 1903; correspondence with Art Jury concerning statuary and paintings, 1915-1919; lists of payroll and expense warrants July-December 1907, some copies of contracts and specifications; brochures concerning tours on which Liberty Bell was sent 1893, 1895, 1902, 1904, 1915 correspondence concerning Bureau's activity in connection with Sesqui-Centennial Celebration, 1926; correspondence, 1928-1936, concerning Southwest (now Philadelphia International) Airport and a brief history of the Airport; a list of Bureau of Public Property files transferred to Independence National Historical Park;a list, compiled by the W. P. A., of City Property contracts for work on Independence Hall, 1859-1930, each entry of which lists item number, name of contractor, goods or services contracted, amount of contract, and dates of warrants; and some bills for the restoration of Independence Hall, 1897.

Drawings of sections, tower, office plans, furniture, roof, window detail, traffic facilities, elevators, gas pipe line, office decorations, storm doors, etc. Includes drawings made by Louis E. Marie, Washington Bleddyn Powell, Joseph A. Roletter and Carl B. Zilenziger, City Architects, and by Edward A. Croul and Philip Johnson. Plans include blueprints and drawings made on linen and tissue. Sizes of plans range from 10 1/8" by 11 1/14" to 51 3/8" x 36 3/8" and of varying scales.

Each set of specifications usually includes proposal sheet, general conditions and special conditions of specification, and a description of workmanship and materials expected. Some add blue prints and guarantee forms. Also included is the name of the City Architect, if his office prepared the specification.

Volumes 1900 and 1908, which are titled "Guide to the City Hall" include dimensions of City Hall and comparative heights of the principal buildings of the world, a description for the arrangement for numbering the rooms, a directory of offices, a floor plan of each floor with a list of offices on each floor, a summary of legislative and municipal action relating to the building, a description of the building, and the Act of the Pennsylvania Legislature which provided for the erection of City Hall. Volume 1902, which is titled "Official Handbook, City Hall" provides similar information concerning the dimensions and description of the building, and adds a description of the functions of each City department, biographical sketches of major City officials, and a general description of the City with photographs of major sites.
