- In a Resolution dated 28 July 1955, City Council authorized the appointment of a Committee on Higher Educational Opportunities for the purpose of determining whether post-high school facilities were adequate to meet predictable demands for the foreseeable future. It submitted its final report to the City Council and the Mayor on 28 January 1958.
