Agency History
This body was created by an Act of 22 April 1794 to care for the children of victims of the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. An appropriation of $2000 was made to enable the guardians "to receive and take charge of them, superintend their morals, education, and employment, and provide for them suitable clothing and diet." The appointed Guardians resigned in the spring of 1795 when those funds were expended and no more granted, leaving the children still unprovided for to the care of the Guardians of the Poor.
