General Sessions, Clerk of the Court of[Record group 24]

- Court established by an Act of February 27, 1840 and vested with the powers of its predecessor Court of Criminal Sessions and the oyer and terminer jurisdiction of the Court of Quarter Sessions. The Clerk of Quarter Sessions continued to maintain the records of that function, however; the Clerk of General Sessions, a popularly-elected official, prepared the records of its other activities. The Court of General Sessions was abolished by an Act of February 3, 1843 and its functions returned to the Court of Quarter Sessions.
