- Agency History
- In January 1968, Mayor James H. J. The Office was designed to implement a comprehensive housing program. The scope of the office included the direct administration of the Relocation Service and the Neighborhood Renewal Program. The Housing Director worked with other City and non-City agencies to coordinate those aspects of their operations which bear on low-income housing construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance. In addition to program administration and coordination, the Office performed other activities, including long-range planning for low-income housing development; assistance to groups in low-income areas in their efforts to utilize the housing and neighborhood development programs; review of existing and proposed governmental housing programs; and collection of all information on publicly assisted production of low and low-moderate income housing.
