WHEREAS, the protection and preservation of the environment is a critical priority for the citizens of the City of Philadelphia;
WHEREAS, there is a critical tie between environmental protection and economic development activities;
WHEREAS, these are currently a variety of City departments and agencies involved in issues relating to environmental protection and related economic development;
WHEREAS, the departments and agencies currently involved in environmental issues and related economic development include the Mayor's Office, the Managing Director's Office, the Department of Licenses and Inspections, the Fire Department, the Law Department, the Streets Department, and the Commerce Department;
WHEREAS, notwithstanding the high quality of the current efforts of the departments and agencies currently involved in issues relating to the environment and related economic development, there is a need for better coordination among those departments and agencies;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Edward G. Rendell, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia, in accordance with Section 3-100 of the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter, do hereby order as follows:
Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental AffairsB. The Mayor will appoint the Chair of the Environmental Cabinet. The Chair is hereby authorized to speak on behalf of the Mayor on all matters before the Environmental Cabinet and to obtain such administrative support from other City departments for the Cabinet's operations as he/she may require.
Director of Commerce Deputy Director of Commerce for Neighborhood Development
Executive Director, Mayor's Business Action Team
Managing Director or his/her designee
City Solicitor or his/her designee
Commissioner of the Department of Licenses and Inspections or his/her designee
Commissioner of the Fire Department or his/her designee
Commissioner of the Streets Department or his/her designee
Deputy Streets Commissioner for Recycling
Commissioner of the Water Department or his/her designee
President of the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation or his/her designee
President of City Council or his/her designee
Up to ten (10) additional Mayoral appointments
A. To coordinate all existing activities of the City government relating to environmental enforcement and economic development related thereto.
B. Recommend to the Mayor a longterm structure for the coordination of efforts by the City of Philadelphia on issues relating to the environment and related economic development.
C. Such other duties as may be assigned to it from time to time.
