Includes organizational description, a copy of the ordinance approved June 2, 1948 which created the Board, membership lists, lists of committee members, information concerning the selection of a publicity director and the Board's education and publicity programs; correspondence with Board members, City officials and other municipalities; biographies of Board members, news clippings; minutes of the following committees: Education and Publicity, March 8,1949; Engineering and Accident Records, April 28,1949October 4,1950; and Off Street Parking, August 5, August 8 and September 16, 1948; committee correspondence, a draft copy of the Board's 1948 Annual Report, copies of speeches by Board members and public officials on solutions to the problem of traffic congestion, proposals and a financial program for the development of offstreet parking; proposals for the development of fringe parking, use of parking meters, underground garages, and other means of easing Center City traffic congestion; plans for easing bottlenecks by cutting curbs at intersections and widening traffic arteries including blueprints of targeted areas with changes indicated, traffic surveys for various parts of the City, questionnaires to midtown shoppers and sheets of compiled statistics, a draft of resolutions presented to the Mayor and President of City Council requesting a survey of traffic functions of the Philadelphia Bureau of Police and procedures for handling cases in Magistrates' Courts, proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, correspondence relating to the construction of the Schuylkill Expressway, correspondence concerning the creation of a separate Department of Traffic and Transportation under the Home Rule Charter, drafts of proposed legislation, committee reports, business catalogues, a report on the revitalization of the downtown area of Allentown, Pa., and copies of a public relations brochure published by the Board.
