GENERAL DEFINITION

This is supervisory industrial electrical work directing electricians engaged in alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical switchgear, equipment, and fixtures at a large and diversified industrial plant complex. A significant aspect of the work is directing the on-going repair and maintenance of high-voltage primary and peripheral equipment within a large city-owned industrial complex typified by multiple, interconnected power distribution systems and extensive industrial electrical component systems and equipment. Employees work in a large industrial water utility plant or the city's international airport complex. Ensuring that work assignments are carried out in accordance with applicable regulations and standard trade practices is significant to the work. Work involves conditions which can only partially be controlled and includes light physical effort. Employees are supervised by a maintenance supervisor.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

Directs a group of Heavy Duty Industrial Electricians engaged in the on-going repair and maintenance of high-voltage primary distribution equipment within a large city-owned industrial complex typified by multiple, interconnected power distribution systems and extensive industrial electrical component systems and equipment.

Plans, assigns, and directs work for a group of Heavy Duty Industrial Electricians engaged in the alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical switchgear, equipment, and fixtures at a large and diversified industrial plant complex; provides technical advice or instructions necessary to expedite and complete work; receives reports of work performed, problems encountered, and supplies expended.

Interprets schematics and diagrams depicting interconnected electrical systems and troubleshoots these for repair purposes.

Tours work sites to observe work in progress and completed to determine that it is in accordance with approved plans and regulations and standards; assures that proper electrical regulations and safety standards are observed.

Reviews plans for contracted electrical alterations to determine compatibility with existing systems; makes recommendations concerning electrical matters during contractors' meetings.

Receives and reviews requests for electrical work from supervisors and prepares cost, time and material estimates for projected jobs; prepares requisitions for parts and supplies used in regular maintenance and repair programs; maintains an inventory of supplies on hand.

Establishes and enforces preventive maintenance schedules for industrial electrical equipment; prepares activity reports either by notations on work requests or by submitting periodic summaries itemizing activities performed and status of supplies.

Trains subordinate Heavy Duty Industrial Electricians in all aspects of work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.

Performs electrical work as job needs require.

Performs related work as required.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment as an Industrial Electrician Group Leader 2 if required by work assignment.

Possession of a valid electrical contractor’s license issued by the Philadelphia Department of Licenses & Inspections at the time of appointment, if required by work assignment.
