GENERAL DEFINITION

This is skilled industrial electrician work at the advanced performance level. Employees are responsible for the alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical switchgear, equipment, and fixtures at a large and diversified industrial plant complex. The class is distinguished from other electrician classes by the on-going repair and maintenance of high voltage primary and peripheral equipment within a large city-owned industrial complex typified by multiple, interconnected power distribution systems and extensive industrial electrical component systems and equipment. Employees work in a large industrial water utility plant or the city’s international airport complex. Work assignments are carried out in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), standard electrical practices, and general work instructions. Employees are supervised by an Industrial Electrician Group Leader or by a maintenance supervisor.
