WATER MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

• Directs the application of a comprehensive corrective and preventive maintenance program, including the maintenance and repair of water pollution control plant process equipment, facilities and grounds; prepares five-year renewal and replacement maintenance program estimates.

• Participates in water quality studies; designs and configures process loop sequences for analog and digital electronically automated instrumentation operations and program process loop sequences in the main computer to system interface field instrumentation process operations with computer system; ensures all monitoring, controlling and regulating activities are recorded during assigned shifts.

• Manages department-wide service and materials and fire safety contracts; monitors and ensures contractor compliance; directs activities of machine shop engaged in metal fabricating and repair; oversees renovations to Water Department buildings and facilities; serves as technical advisor to administrative superior in matters concerning building maintenance and construction.

EDUCATION
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Pollution Control Plant Specialty

• Two years of experience in the supervision of full performance level maintenance staff.

Treatment Plant Specialty

• Four years of experience in the electrical trade, or in water treatment operations, or in the repair, maintenance and calibration of electrically, hydraulically, pneumatically and electronically activated instrumentation, or in the maintenance and repair of heavy industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.

Facilities Maintenance Specialty

• Four years of experience in the trades commonly used in the maintenance, repair and upkeep of public buildings and facilities.
AND
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE

Pollution Control Plant Specialty

• Three years of the above-described experience in a second-level supervisory capacity in industrial maintenance, supervising a staff of electrical, electronic and instrumentation, or mechanical, or HVAC and building and grounds trades workers and performing corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance programs and plant parts inventory.

Treatment Plant Specialty

• Three years of experience supervising full performance trades workers engaged in the maintenance and repair of water treatment plant equipment and/or instrumentation, or six years of experience supervising water treatment plant operators, or three years of experience in a second-level supervisory capacity in industrial maintenance, supervising a staff of electrical, electronic and instrumentation, or mechanical trades workers and performing corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance programs and plant parts inventory.

Facilities Maintenance Specialty

• Three years of experience above the second supervisory level, one year which has included directing a comprehensive building maintenance and repair program for a major department.

OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department that has included the specific experience described above.

NOTE:

Completion of two years' technical school in a related field may be substituted for one year of the general experience requirement for the Treatment Plant specialty.

Possession of a valid class B level or above Sewage Treatment Plant or Waterworks Operator license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection may substitute for two years of the general experience requirement for the Pollution Control Plant specialty or the Treatment Plant specialty.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

• Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Water Plant Superintendent.
