MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT MECHANIC


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is skilled mechanical work at the full performance level in the maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment in a large City facility or several facilities. An employee in this class utilizes mechanical trade skills in the maintenance and repair of machinery and related equipment including, but not limited to generators, motors, pumps, compressors, fans and valves. Work also includes performing other basic trades tasks as assigned such as routine plumbing and electrical work. Employees service equipment breakdowns in environments such as offices, storerooms, basements, roofs, laboratories, laundry, pool, airport and patient care areas.

Significant to the work is inspecting and diagnosing malfunctioning mechanical equipment to determine equipment problems. Work involves some disagreeable aspects and physical effort. Employees report to a higher level maintenance superior.
