GENERAL DEFINITION

This is full performance level machining work designing, fabricating and modifying precision metal parts for machinery and equipment, including large industrial items, using lathes, drill presses, milling machines, shapers and similar equipment. Employees in this class design metal items, machine metal items, dismantle equipment, replace defective parts and reassemble devices as assigned. Work involves some disagreeable aspects in the form of standing for long periods of time, and the lifting of heavy material. Employees report to a higher level maintenance superior.

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department.

NOTE: Training in a post high school approved machinist trade school curriculum for a minimum of six months up to a maximum of one year can be equated on a month by month basis for the experience requirement.
