BRIDGE MAINTENANCE WORKER I


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is skilled bridge maintenance work at the full performance level, applying the methods, practices and techniques of several construction trades, such as the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, masonry, painting, carpentry; structural ironworks and welding trades used in the performance of major bridge and building rehabilitation, maintenance and repair. Employees in this class concentrate in one of the accepted trades and perform other trades duties, as required.

Work involves conditions which can be only partially controlled, including but not limited to working at unusual and dangerous heights; working in close proximity to high voltage lines; working in inclement conditions; and, frequently exerting strenuous physical effort. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Bridge Maintenance Supervisor.
