TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE 1
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is full performance clerical telecommunication services work in the Communications Division of the Department of Public Property. An employee in this class processes telecommunications service requests and invoices for payment, and maintains the City's central employee directory. Work includes reviewing requests and preparing requisitions. Contact with City agencies and departments regarding telecommunications service requests, and vendors for clarification of invoices submitted for payment is significant to the work. Work is performed under the supervision of a telephone services superior.
ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated to this class.)
- Position must perform clerical telecommunications services work in the Communications Division of the Department of Public Property.
- Position must process telecommunications service requests and invoices for payment and maintain the City's central employee directory.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Processes telecommunications service requests such as but not limited to changes or additions to telephones, pagers and voicemail; reviews requests for appropriateness; contacts requesting City agency or department to obtain pertinent information; compares requests with existing system configuration; recommends changes and/or alternatives as necessary; prepares requisitions for services requested; may make estimate of costs for services.
- Processes invoices for payment; reviews invoices for appropriateness; contacts vendors for clarification; makes adjustments as necessary.
- Maintains the City's employee directory; assigns PIN numbers to eligible City employees for long distance dialing; monitors the distribution and repair of telephones, pagers, voicemail, etc; ensures that the City employee directory reflects appropriate employees.
- Keeps abreast of current developments in the field of telecommunications; attends training sessions as necessary.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- telecommunications systems, services and equipment, including associated computer software
- the use and application of telecommunications system and equipment, including associated computer software
ABILITY TO:
- review telecommunications service requests for appropriateness and prepare requisitions
- review invoices for appropriateness and prepare payment vouchers
- maintain a central telephone directory
- read blueprints and telephone layouts
- express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing
- maintain effective working relationships with city officials, associates and representatives of telephone and communications companies
- follow written instructions
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 4/02.)
EDUCATION
- Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE
- One year of clerical telecommunications services experience in a large telephone network environment.
AND
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
- One year of clerical telecommunications services experience in a large telephone network environment, processing telecommunications service requests.
NOTE
One year of the General Experience described above may be substituted with post high school training in telecommunications at a technical institute or at an accredited college or university with major course in telecommunications.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of
a position in this class.
