PRISON CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION DIRECTOR
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is instructional closed circuit television work developing and administering a closed
circuit audio-visual program for educational and recreational use by inmates. Instructing a group
of inmates in the use of broadcasting equipment and various phases of production is a significant
aspect of the work.
Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative supervisor.
Assignments require evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with standard audio-
visual reproduction practices and general work instructions. The employee in this class has
controlling responsibility for the operational and training aspects of the prison's closed circuit
television program.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Oversees, directs and instructs inmates in all phases of closed circuit television program
production, including the creation and production of program contents.
- Meets with prisoners, prison instructors and staff to determine what educational programs
or prison activities should be videotaped and recorded; recommends subject matter to be
considered for broadcasting to prison officials.
- Assigns inmates tasks such as filming, taping, stage management, lighting and similar
functions necessary for videotaping and broadcasting.
- Gives lectures to inmates on various phases of equipment maintenance and broadcasting;
selects textbooks and other materials to assist in teaching inmates; uses community resources to
secure speakers and to familiarize inmates with sources of employment in the field of
communication.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- the principles and practices used in videotaping and recording.
- production techniques used in broadcasting.
- the maintenance and repair of broadcasting equipment.
- teaching methods as applied to vocational training.
- community broadcasting resources and recent development in the field of closed circuit
television.
- the operation of television cameras, recorders, stagelights and other television equipment.
ABILITY TO:
- direct live programs for videotaping.
- instruct and supervise a group of inmates engaged in the production and broadcast of
closed circuit television programs.
- plan, instruct and schedule classes for inmates.
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with inmates and associates.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject
applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for the class will be reviewed based
on training and experience requirements as approved on 1/76.)
EDUCATION
- Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with
major course work in communications.
EXPERIENCE
- Two years experience developing, directing or producing closed circuit or broadcast
television programming.
Or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
