RADIOGRAPHER SUPERVISOR

This is supervisory radiological work supervising the provision of diagnostic radiology services for the district health centers. The employee in this class supervises a group of radiographers and mammographers engaged in the operation of radiological equipment to produce radiographs of the body for diagnostic purposes. Work includes planning, organizing and assigning work and modifying procedures to improve workflow and increase efficiency. Work also includes the responsibility for the accurate and complete processing of records. Contact with patients, physicians and other medical and administrative professionals is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior.

ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated to this class.)

• The position must be responsible for supervising the production of radiographs for diagnostic purposes through a group of subordinate radiographer mammographers.
• The position must perform the work for the Health Department's district health centers.

• Plans, supervises, monitors and assigns work to subordinate radiology services personnel; evaluates and monitors the radiology quality assurance program to conform with federal and state regulations; implements standards and procedures for processing radiographic film; arranges and monitors the periodic testing of all radiographic and processing equipment with vendors and appropriate federal, state and local regulatory agencies; implements and maintains a system for monitoring levels of radiation exposure to Health Department staff; maintains records of testing; arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment; prepares reports with recommendations for disposal of equipment.
• Records and logs x-ray maintenance services provided; prepares monthly reports which indicate the type and number of x-rays taken; confers with technical consultants on the development and implementation of radiology protocols and procedures; participate in in-service training programs for technicians; coordinates and supervises the mobile mammography program; develops forms, schedules, and patient and staff protocols; resolves radiology service delivery problems.
• Procures supplies and equipment; checks completed records, reports and other documents for accuracy, completeness and proper processing; establishes and controls service delivery and time elements; reviews and makes modifications of clerical procedures and processes to accomplish work goals; may access computer software to generate various outputs.
• Performs related work a required.

EDUCATION
• Completion of twelfth school grade supplemented by completed coursework in an approved two year course in radiography from an accredited educational institution.

AND

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

• Three years of experience at the full performance level operating equipment to produce radiographs of the body for diagnostic purposes and developing the resulting x-ray films in one of the City's district health centers or in a private sector hospital or clinical environment.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES

• Possession of certification as an x-ray radiologist and as a mammographer from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Radiographer Supervisor, if required by work assignment.
