This is technical radiology work at the full performance level providing diagnostic x-ray services at the district health centers. An employee in this class reviews requests for radiographs and operates computer related equipment to produce patient diagnosis. Work includes screening patient for x-rays and positioning patient for proper exposure. An employee in this class develops images. Contact with patients, physicians and outside institutions regarding requests for x-rays and/or transfer of images is significant to the work. Work is performed under the general supervision of a technical superior and involves moderate physical effort.
ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated to this class.)Reviews requests for x-rays; determines the type of study and number of films needed to complete study; screens patient for x-rays; explains to patient the procedure for x-rays to minimize exposure to radiation; records patient name, address and type of x-ray requested.
Operates radiological equipment to produce patient x-rays; positions patient for proper exposure; adjusts equipment controls for optimum view; measures patient anatomy; selects proper cassette size; loads cassettes into digital unit; may utilize immobilization devices such as compression bands for pediatric patients; may operate mammogram equipment to produce radiographs.
Processes images utilizing an automatic picture archiving communication system (PACS) to develop exposed images to insure proper contrast and density; forwards images via PACS to requesting physician or radiologist for review.
Maintains radiological equipment and supplies; cleans equipment and monitors Computed Radiologic (CR) Equipment; runs test on a daily basis to insure proper functioning of equipment; may diagnose equipment malfunction; may document Dark Room image quality to assure compliance to standards; performs minor repair work as necessary, contacts technical support line for assistance as needed.
Prepares schedules for x-ray appointments in accordance with physician requests; obtains previous films from other health centers or hospitals if available; sends letters to patients informing them of their x-ray appointments; makes follow-up calls to confirm appointments; reschedules appointments if necessary; may prepare schedules for mammogram appointments; may explain to patients the procedure for breast self examination.
Completes patient and health insurance encounter forms; maintains log of x-ray services provided; prepares monthly reports which indicate the type and number of x-rays taken; orders supplies.
Performs related work as required.
Completion of an approved two-year course in radiology.
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATESPossession of certification in Radiography from the American Registry of Radiologic technology prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Radiographer.
