General Mechanical
- Plumbing, heating and ventilating systems, incinerators, pumping equipment, water gates,
valves and other appurtenances for water works facilities, and other phases of public works
projects.
Solid Waste
- Refuse collection, street cleaning methods, equipment, and sanitation practices as
required; refuse disposal facilities and methods which include municipal incineration, air
pollution control equipment, grinding, compaction, composting, sanitary landfill, including
operation and maintenance of these systems for present and future installations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- engineering theory, principles and practices as applied to the area of specialization.
- modern engineering methods and techniques in the area of specialization.
- engineering mathematics and mathematical tables, as they apply to the area of
specialization.
- supervisory methods and techniques.
ABILITY TO:
- supervise the design, layout and preparation of complete engineering plans and
specifications in the area of specialization.
- do engineering design work involving the analysis, selection, modification and adaptation
of engineering precedents, methods and techniques from the standpoint of economic and
engineering feasibility.
- resolve engineering design and interpretation problems.
- review plans, designs, specifications and estimates.
- prepare clear, concise, and technically sound engineering reports.
- interpret and apply regulatory codes affecting the work.
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, engineers and
others.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
(The following statement
represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject
applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based
on training and experience requirements as approved on 5/69.)
- Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with
major coursework in the area of specialization.
- Four years of engineering experience in the area of specialization, two years of which
shall have been at the full performance level.
Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which has included the
completion of a bachelor's degree in an acceptable area of engineering.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to meet approved minimal physical and medical standards.
