ACCOUNTING PRODUCTION CONTROL ANALYST
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is technical accounting data processing work monitoring and controlling computerized accounting systems and diagnosing production problems for the City's Finance Department centralized accounting bureau. The employee in this class ensures the proper execution of the procedures related to computerized financial accounting systems and maintains the integrity of the City's centralized financial accounting management information system. Interacting with departmental accounting officials and computer personnel from the City's centralized computer agency is essential to the work. The employee may provide assistance and direction in the absence of higher-level supervisors to a small clerical staff. The employee in this class reports to a technical superior.
ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated to this class.)
- The position in this class must ensure the proper execution of the procedures related to computerized financial accounting systems and maintains the integrity of the City's centralized financial accounting management information system.
- Work must be performed in the Central Finance Department’s Accounting Bureau.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Ensures proper execution of the procedures related to computerized financial accounting systems (FAMIS); maintains "job control language" data files; maintains lists of tapes and the data stored on those tapes; researches and resolves output problems; consults with central computer agency on complex problems; verifies proper execution of programs to ensure they were run completely and accurately.
- Maintains the integrity of the City-wide financial accounting management information system (FAMIS); maintains files pertinent to this system; generates ad hoc reports using report generation utilities; ensures the proper transference of data from one fiscal year to the next; verifies and runs back-up files for both the City's FAMIS (Finance) and ADPICS (Procurement) systems; ensures that both systems are in balance in terms of data entered to maintain coordination of file status between the two systems; develops CICS users' manual and interacts with the central computer agency to keep abreast of their published standards manual; attends user group meetings.
- Provides assistance and direction, in the absence of higher-level supervisors, a clerical staff responsible for batching, entering and verifying a large volume of data concerning Citywide accounting transactions, reviewing and resolving input errors, posting and processing adjustments to the City payroll, and assembling financial documents for easy input.
- Confers with departmental officials to review their requests to access the City-wide financial accounting management information system (FAMIS) data base; recommends approval or disapproval depending upon the impact on the data base; interacts with computer personnel in the referral and resolution of program execution problems.
- Schedules program runs to ensure that staffing and equipment are fully utilized; revises existing procedure.

EDUCATION
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting at an accredited college or university.
AND
EXPERIENCE
- Three years of general accounting experience which has involved the use of a Citywide computerized accounting system.
OR
Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
