MAIL CENTER PROCESSING SUPERVISOR


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is technical work supervising subordinate staff engaged in the processing and mailing of the city’s outgoing billings, vendor payments, permits, violations notices, parking, ticket violations, subpoenas and traffic court citations. An employee in this class plans, assigns and reviews the work of subordinate staff. Work includes planning mail processing schedules, inspecting work in progress and upon completion, and ensuring that items are processed and mailed to recipients on time. An employee in this class performs complex mail processing or programming work. Work is performed under the direction of a Mail Center Services Manager and involves light physical exertion and exposure to a noisy and dusty environment.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

Plans and assigns the work of staff engaged in the processing and mailing of the city’s outgoing billings, vendor payments, permits, violations notices, parking ticket violations, subpoenas and traffic court citations; determines priorities; plans work schedules; assigns planned, special and recurring mail processing work to subordinate staff; ensures that mailing items are processed and mailed to recipients on time.

Inspects the work of subordinate staff in sorting, perforating, folding, bar-coding, and batch processing operations; reviews subordinates’ work in progress and upon completion to ensure quality and standards; orients subordinate staff to new and existing mail processing equipment.

Performs complex mail processing or programming work; operates mail processing equipment involving job selection, sorting plans, and barcodes, postage stamps and tags.

Troubleshoots mail processing equipment for minor operational problems; cleans and maintains equipment; performs minor repairs on equipment; reports unresolved equipment problems.

Ensures that there are adequate material supplies for mail processing operations; prepares status reports on mail items received, processed and mailed, material supplies, and maintenance and repair of equipment.

Attends mail processing meetings and training seminars.

Performs related work as required.
