CITY OF PHILADELPHIA PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT
1E37
DATA CENTER MANAGER
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is administrative data processing work supervising, through subordinate supervisors, the
computer center's operational responses to user data processing production requests and monitoring the
efficiency of data processing procedures and software and hardware systems. An employee in this class
controls the work flow and job run scheduling and ensures data security and integrity for either the first
or evening shift within the data center operations area. The employee on the day shift directs electronic
printing activities and the operation of a city-wide user assistance program. The employee directing
activities on the evening shift is responsible for the evening shift data entry function. Both employees
have responsibility on their respective shifts for directing production system monitoring and job run
activities performed by computer operation personnel through the operation of computer console and
peripheral equipment. Work includes troubleshooting and providing problem resolution for production
system malfunctions, network failure and user complaints and establishing and enforcing day to day
production and security standards. Providing the user network with efficient and cost effective data
processing services while maintaining user satisfaction is a significant aspect of the work. Work is
performed under the direction of a technical superior.
