DESCRIPTION:

This is building maintenance work supervising the maintenance, renovation and repair of the buildings and/or heating plants of a penal institution. A significant aspect of the work is the rehabilitation of inmates through training.

Work is performed under the direction of an administrative superior. Assignments require evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with accepted trades standards and applicable prison regulations. The employee participates with other maintenance supervisors to insure that prison facilities are maintained. Work involves conditions which can only be partially controlled.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests.  Candidates must meet requirements within 30 days after the last date for filing applications.

  1. Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the Prisons with a Performance Rating of Satisfactory or higher AND;

  2. EDUCATION
    Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade. AND;

  3. EXPERIENCE
    Six years of trades experience in the alteration, maintenance and repair of a large complex of buildings and grounds, and their facilities, one year of which shall have been supervising journeyman tradesmen in such work.

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to meet approved minimal physical and medical standards.

Training and Experience Evaluation - 90%
Senority Rating - 10%

PROJECTED EXAM SCHEDULE
Applicants will be evaluated and scored based upon their training and experience credentials.  Applicants will not be asked to appear to take a scheduled examination.

ELIGIBLE LIST
DEPARTMENTAL-ONLY PROMOTIONAL. Only a departmental promotional eligible list for the Prisons will be established as a result of the examination.

An eligible list is planned for the week of September 21, 2009. Please not this this date may change.

TEST REVIEW
In accordance with Civil Service Regulation 9.091D, candidates may review their answer sheets and other test papers to determine if they have been scored correctly or if there has been an irregularity in the administration of the examination.
