U.S. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE NOTE:
Ten points for veteran’s preference will be added to the scores of eligible veterans who apply for open competitive tests and pass the examination (for concurrent examinations, this applies only to applicants who are not currently employed by the City in a civil service position). You must be honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces. Attach a DD214, member 4, to your application if you wish your eligibility to be reviewed. Spouses of disabled or deceased veterans may also be considered.



DUTIES

  This is entry level work learning turf and ground maintenance procedures designed to maintain and improve park grounds, roads and related facilities. Employees use manual and power tools and learn to maintain power tools and equipment. Work is performed under the close supervision of a crew chief. Work involves strenuous physical effort and exposure to unfavorable conditions.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. EDUCATION:
    Education equivalent to completion of the eighth school grade;

    AND

  2. Forty (40) hours of class work training in grounds maintenance.

    OR

  3. Thirty (30) hours of college coursework in a related field(nursery, ground arboriculture or landscape design).

    OR

  4. One year experience with a landscape, nursery, grounds or other related maintenance jobs.

This examination will be held the week of July 28, 2008. Please note this date is subject to change.

ELIGIBLE LISTS:

OPEN COMPETITIVE
Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.
