This application fee may be waived for individuals who demonstrate an inability to pay because of certain types of financial need.

U.S. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE NOTE:
Ten points for veteran’s preference will be added to the scores of eligible veterans who apply for open competitive tests and pass the examination (for concurrent examinations, this applies only to applicants who are not currently employed by the City in a civil service position). You must be honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces. Attach a DD214, member 4, to your application if you wish your eligibility to be reviewed. Spouses of disabled or deceased veterans may also be considered.



DUTIES

  This is participatory recreation work teaching and leading cultural or athletic activities at a recreation facility. The employee performs recreational services for participants at centers, playgrounds, gym facilities of nearby schools, and in park areas. Work includes issuing equipment and supplies and supervising games and sports. Work differs from the higher level classes by the absence of supervision over departmental personnel and lesser responsibility for program administration. Duties require evening and weekend work. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level recreation leader.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of one year at an accredited college or university;

    AND

  2. EXPERIENCE:
    Three months of full-time paid experience leading participants in recreation sports leagues or other organized recreational or cultural activities;

    OR

  3. Any other combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department that has included the education described above.

NOTE:
Completion of an additional year of education as described above may be substituted for the experience requirement.

The City of Philadelphia will accept volunteer experience for this position if applicants can provide written documentation verifying volunteer work totaling one year of full-time experience leading participants in recreation sports leagues or other organized recreational or cultural activities. Documentation must come from the organization where the volunteer work was performed.

TRANSCRIPTS
Candidates MUST submit an official copy of your college or university transcript(s) indicating completion of the educational requirement above, at the time of application.

Please note that the Personnel Department does not accept internet-generated copies, grade reports or copies of the degree conferred. If you attended an institution located outside the United States, please submit a credit evaluation report from an agency that provides the service.

OPEN COMPETITIVE
Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.
