U.S. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE NOTE:
Ten points for veteran’s preference will be added to the scores of eligible veterans who apply for open competitive tests and pass the examination (for concurrent examinations, this applies only to applicants who are not currently employed by the City in a civil service position). You must be honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces. Attach a DD214, member 4, to your application if you wish your eligibility to be reviewed. Spouses of disabled or deceased veterans may also be considered.
This is environmental health work at the entry level inspecting a variety of establishments for conformance to public health regulations and codes. Employees in this class perform inspections to identify hazards and examine conditions as they affect public health in such areas as milk and food control, institutional sanitation and safety, hazardous materials, solid waste handling and disposal practice, vector control, lead poisoning, and environmental health. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level sanitarian. Light physical effort and some disagreeable aspects are involved in the work

EDUCATION:
Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in dairy or food technology, environmental, agricultural, life or physical science, or 30 semester hours in any combination of the above.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:
Possession of a current certificate as either a Certified Public Applicator or a Registered Pesticide Applicator from the Department of Agriculture of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania if required by work assignment.
Possession of a current certificate as a Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania if required by workassignment.
Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to and during tenure of employment as a Sanitarian if required by work assignment.
RESIDENCY WAIVER NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to date of appointment. Establishment of residency will be required of each non-resident hired not later than six (6) months after completion of the probationary period.
