Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) ranks highest among large airports in North America in overall customer satisfaction in J.D. Power and Associates' 2008 North America Airport Satisfaction Study released on May 20th.

"This recognition by J.D. Power and Associates is a credit to thousands of airport workers in a variety of jobs," said Charles Isdell, Acting Director of Aviation.

The Philadelphia Airport System is owned and operated by the City of Philadelphia and is composed of Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The Airport System is a self-sustaining entity that operates without the use of local tax dollars. It is one of the largest economic engines in Pennsylvania, generating an estimated $14 billion in spending to the regional economy and employing a workforce of nearly 34,000.

U.S. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE NOTE:
Ten points for veteran’s preference will be added to the scores of eligible veterans who apply for open competitive tests and pass the examination (for concurrent examinations, this applies only to applicants who are not currently employed by the City in a civil service position). You must be honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces. Attach a DD214, member 4, to your application if you wish your eligibility to be reviewed. Spouses of disabled or deceased veterans may also be considered.


DUTIES

This is airport operations work, at a large hub airport, patrolling and inspecting airport air field, landside and terminal areas for specific safety hazards, security breaches and operations and maintenance problems.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university, which has included 24 credit hours in aviation management.

    AND

  2. GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
    One year of experience in airport administration, maintenance or operations, which has included airport authorized training in airport safety and security and the regulations governing the movement of planes, pedestrians and vehicular traffic.;

    OR

  3. Any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department, which has included 24 credit hours in aviation management.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as an Airport Operations Agent.

RESIDENCY WAIVER NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to date of appointment. Establishment of residency will be required of each non-resident hired not later than six (6) months after completion of the probationary period.

Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.
