*Hiring Bonus: $2,500
**Credential Based Bonus (Professional Engineer): $2,000 annually
Bonus for a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Engineering: $1,000 annually

* A hiring bonus of $1,500 shall be paid to each employee who has completed three months of satisfactory full-time employment and an additional $1,000 will be paid to each employee who has completed twelve months of satisfactory full-time employment.

** Employees who secure and maintain registration as a professional engineer as issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers are eligible for an annual lump sum salary differential of $2,000.

Employees who have a Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Engineering are eligible for an annual lump sum salary differential of $1,000.

DUTIES

This is beginning level electrical engineering work. Employees in this class perform assignments of limited but increasing scope and complexity, which are intended to develop the knowledge and abilities of the engineer. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level engineer. Assignments require evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with standard engineering practices and general work instruction. Completed work is used as a basis by others to further engineering projects.

REQUIREMENT

  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university, with major course work in electrical engineering.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Graduate Electrical Engineer if required by work assignment.

ANTICIPATED ELIGIBLITY
College students may apply for and take the examination for this class as much as nine months prior to the date of receipt of the bachelor’s degree. However, any candidate doing so will not be eligible for appointment until (s)he has presented evidence of successful completion of the undergraduate course work.

NOTE: Candidates MUST submit a copy of their official college transcript with their application. Candidates who have not yet graduated will NOT be required to submit transcripts at the time of application, but will have to present their transcripts upon completion of their education. Transcripts MUST indicate conference of the appropriate degree.

PROJECTED EXAMINATION SCHEDULE
Applicants will be evaluated and scored based upon their training and experience credentials. Applicants will not be asked to appear to take a scheduled examination.

RESIDENCY WAIVER NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to date of appointment. Establishment of residency will be required of each non-resident hired not later than six (6) months after completion of the probationary period.
