Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) ranks highest among large airports in North America in overall customer satisfaction in J.D. Power and Associates' 2008 North America Airport Satisfaction Study released on May 20th.

"This recognition by J.D. Power and Associates is a credit to thousands of airport workers in a variety of jobs," said Charles Isdell, Acting Director of Aviation.

The Philadelphia Airport System is owned and operated by the City of Philadelphia and is composed of Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The Airport System is a self-sustaining entity that operates without the use of local tax dollars. It is one of the largest economic engines in Pennsylvania, generating an estimated $14 billion in spending to the regional economy and employing a workforce of nearly 34,000.

U.S. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE NOTE:
Ten points for veteran’s preference will be added to the scores of eligible veterans who apply for open competitive tests and pass the examination (for concurrent examinations, this applies only to applicants who are not currently employed by the City in a civil service position). You must be honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces. Attach a DD214, member 4, to your application if you wish your eligibility to be reviewed. Spouses of disabled or deceased veterans may also be considered.


DUTIES

This is administrative work at the trainee level performing assignments designed to further develop the management skills required to perform a variety of airport management activities. The employees in this class conduct analyses, recommend revisions of policies and procedures, and develop plans and strategies.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of a bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with major course work in aviation management.

RESIDENCY WAIVER NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to date of appointment. Establishment of residency will be required of each non-resident hired not later than six (6) months after completion of the probationary period.


PROJECTED EXAMINATION SCHEDULE

This examination will be given as applicants are approved for assessment.

ANTICIPATED ELIGIBILITY:
College students may apply for and take the examination for this class as much as nine months prior to the date of receipt of the bachelor’s degree. However, any candidate doing so will not be eligible for appointment until (s)he has presented evidence of successful completion of the undergraduate coursework

OPEN COMPETITIVE
Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.
