DUTIES

This is skilled electrician work at the full performance level. Employees are responsible for the alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical switchgear, equipment, and fixtures. The class is distinguished from other electrician classes by the on-going repair and maintenance of high voltage primary distribution equipment. Work in the Airport specialty requires the application of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations to repair and maintain electrical equipment used to guide commercial aircraft and by hazards inherent in an airport environment. Work assignments are carried out in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), standard electrical practices, and general work instructions. Employees are supervised by an Industrial Electrician Group Leader or by a maintenance supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.

    AND

  2. Two years of full performance level experience in the electrical trade including one year of experience in the installation or repair of electrical systems utilizing switchgear and relays powered by at least 440 volts.

    AND

  3. One year of experience performing such work or high-voltage primary distribution equipment of at least 13.2KV in a metropolitan airport or a large industrial facility.

    OR

  4. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department which includes the specific experience described above.

This examination will be given as applicants are recruited for vacant positions. Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule their examination.

RESIDENCY WAIVER NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to date of appointment. Establishment of residency will be required of each non-resident hired not later than six (6) months after completion of the probationary period.

Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.
