DUTIES

This is beginning level chemistry work. Employees in this class perform assignments of limited scope and complexity which are intended to develop knowledges and skills required for analytical chemistry. Work is performed under the close supervision of a higher level chemist.

REQUIREMENT

  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of a bachelor's degree program, at an accredited college or university, in chemistry

    OR
    Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with a minimum equivalent of 34 semester hours in chemistry or biochemistry.

TRANSCRIPTS
Candidates MUST submit an official copy of their college or university transcript(s) indicating completion of the educational requirement above at the time of application. Candidates who have not yet graduated will be required to submit their transcripts upon completion of their education. Transcripts MUST indicate conference of the respective degree.

ANTICIPATED ELIGIBLITY
College students may apply for and take the examination for this class as much as nine months prior to the date of receipt of the bachelor’s degree. However, any candidate doing so will not be eligible for appointment until (s)he has presented evidence of successful completion of the undergraduate course work.

PROJECTED EXAMINATION SCHEDULE
This examination will be given as applicants are recruited for vacant positions. Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule their examination.

RESIDENCY WAIVER NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to date of appointment. Establishment of residency will be required of each non-resident hired not later than six (6) months after completion of the probationary period.

ELIGIBLE LISTS:

OPEN COMPETITIVE
Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.

CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT
The examination for this class is announced on a continuous basis. The eligible list established as a result will be merged as candidates are tested. Candidates who pass the examination and are placed on the civil service list will be retained on the list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years.
