U.S. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE NOTE:

DUTIES

  This is intermediate level mechanical work in the maintenance, repair, operation and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems (HVAC), and related utility components. An employee in this class performs routine maintenance and repair of the systems and equipment, and related utility components. Employees in this class gain experience and learn progressively more difficult and complicated maintenance and repair work necessary for advancement to the full performance HVAC Mechanic 2 class. Work includes performing preventive maintenance of the systems and equipment, and monitoring and regulating the systems equipment operations in accordance with established schedule. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level maintenance superior and involves physical effort and exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of a post high-school HVAC and/or Refrigeration and Air conditioning trades program from an accredited technical institute, trade school or college, including possession of a diploma indicating completion of all program curriculum requirements.

    OR
    Equivalent to the twelfth school grade.

    AND

  2. EXPERIENCE:
    Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilation systems and related primary and peripheral utility components.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES

PROJECTED EXAMINATION SCHEDULE
This examination will be given as applicants are recruited for vacant positions. Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule for examination.

AMENDMENT TO RESIDENCY
Philadelphia residency is NOT required at the time of application Every employee in the civil service, however, must establish his or her bona fide residence in the City of Philadelphia within six months of his or her appointment, and shall thereafter maintain bona fide residence in the City.
