Workwise Workwise provides job readiness and job search assistance to individuals referred from County Assistance Offices (CAO) in Philadelphia. The title "Workwise" was chosen because of its ambitious goal of preparing individuals for the world of work. |
Workwise offers a comprehensive “supported work” and “work readiness” program for Philadelphians. The program empowers public assistance recipients to overcome barriers to employment, while also meeting the needs of regional employers. Through the program, clients receive job readiness training and job search assistance. Job readiness classes prepare clients for the world of work through aptitude and skill assessments, resume development, sample application work, mock interviews, and a review of the job market. Throughout the program, case managers assist the participants one-on-one in addressing employment barriers. Furthermore, case managers help clients identify suitable child-care, transportation allowances, and other temporary assistance available from the County Assistance Office (CAO).
As clients prepare themselves for the workplace, Workwise employment specialists constantly survey Philadelphia and the surrounding region for employment opportunities. Employment specialists take pride in their ability to sell the Workwise program to employers and carefully match skilled workers with job opportunities. Employers who partner with Workwise benefit from receiving skilled workers and from a number of available tax incentives and credits. Once placed in a job, retention specialists work with clients and their employers to determine strategies conducive to job retention. The client’s case manager also assists in the retention effort by identifying services provided by the CAO and related sources. Through this holistic and personal approach to employment services, Workwise offers clients hope, encouragement, and a sense of optimism. At the same time, it teaches them the practical skills necessary for success in the workplace.
