Primary mission:
- Reduce energy use in city-owned facilities;
- Cost effectively lower utility operating costs; and
- Maintain or improve occupant comfort.
MEO strives to achieve its goals through the use of sustainable, high performance building practices that emphasize the efficient use of resources. MEO is also involved in a number of community sustainability initiatives and federal building partnerships.
- MEO was established in 1994. Since that time, energy initiatives have saved the City an estimated $45 million.
- MEO has kept the City's energy use flat from 1994 – 2003 despite the addition of two major new buildings and recent winter weather related spikes in gas costs. See Energy Expenditures Graph for details.
